# How to make a digital business card you can update after printing

**Who this is for:** Sales teams, founders, consultants and real estate agents

A paper business card is accurate for exactly as long as nothing about you changes. New title, new number, new company — the box of five hundred in your desk drawer records none of it.

A hosted card puts the details behind a QR code instead of in the ink. The code opens a card page you can edit from the dashboard, and whoever scans it saves your contact with one tap.

## Steps

### 1. Create the card from the Business Card tab

In the dashboard, go to Links, choose Create Link and pick the Business Card tab. Fill in your name, job title, organization, email, phone, website and postal address, add a note if you want one, and set an avatar image URL and a theme color so the page looks like yours. Extra links — a booking page, a portfolio, a LinkedIn profile — go on as label-and-URL pairs.

### 2. Choose the back-half people will see

The card lives at a short link like rrte.link/yourname, or a custom back-half of your choosing. Pick something you are happy to say out loud, because it is the one setting you cannot change later — the back-half is fixed once the link is created.

### 3. Style the QR code and export it print-ready

Generate the code for the short link in the dashboard: set the colors, drop your logo in the middle, and export at 1024px as PNG, PDF or WebP. That resolution holds up on a business card and on a conference banner alike.

### 4. Print it wherever your name goes

The back of the paper card is the obvious place, but the same code works on an email signature, a slide deck or a stand at a trade show. Every copy opens the same hosted page, so there is nothing to keep in sync. On a scan, the page shows your contact rows and a Save Contact button that downloads a standard vCard — iPhone and Android both open it natively, no app required.

### 5. Update the details whenever they change

Edit the card from the dashboard and every printed code shows the change on the next scan. New role, new number, new company name — the five hundred cards in the drawer are all current again without a reprint.

### 6. See where the card is working

Every scan is recorded with country, city, device type, operating system, browser and time, and shows up in the dashboard like any other dynamic link. Useful after a conference for the blunt question of whether anyone actually scanned.

## What this will not do

- The short link back-half is fixed at creation. The card contents can change forever; the address it lives at cannot.
- On Pro, hosted cards are tied to seats — five cards, one per seat. Enterprise removes the cap.
- There are no NFC tags or Apple and Google Wallet passes. This is a QR code that opens a page, which is the whole trick — it needs nothing but a camera.
- The free vCard generator encodes your details into the pattern itself. It costs nothing and needs no account, but it cannot be edited after printing — that is the trade in each direction.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do recipients need an app?

No. The camera on any iPhone or Android phone scans the code, the card opens in the browser, and the Save Contact button downloads a standard vCard file the phone already knows how to open.

### What happens if I change jobs?

Edit the card. Title, company, email, phone — every code already printed shows the new details on the next scan. The only thing that persists is the short link itself, which is worth remembering when you choose it.

### How is this different from the free vCard QR code?

The free tool encodes your details directly into the pattern, so it works offline and forever — and can never be changed. The hosted card encodes a short link, so it can always be changed — and depends on the page being there. Frozen and free, or editable and paid.

### How many cards do I get?

Pro includes five hosted cards, one per seat, at no extra charge. Enterprise has no limit. Both come with a seven-day free trial.

### Can I see who scanned my card?

You can see where and when, not who. Each scan records country, city, device and time as anonymous analytics — there is no name capture or contact exchange, so nobody who scans your card is identified to you.
