Migrate from Bitly to reRoute
We cannot take over bit.ly. Import the Bitly CSV. Destinations, titles and free back-halves come across. Printed bit.ly codes do not. Keep Bitly destinations live, print new rrte.link on the next physical run, and drain top-N by scan volume until that run turns over. Links-page export is paid-plan and arrives by email.

Steps

Export from Bitly
On a paid Bitly plan, open Links and click Export. Bitly emails a CSV. Documented columns include Destination URL, Custom Link, Title, and Link. We auto-detect those headers. Export from the Links page is a paid-plan feature.

Upload the CSV
Sign in and open /dashboard/links/import, or start from /import if you do not have an account yet. Rows without a usable http(s) destination are counted and reported, never silently dropped.

Read the new addresses as rrte.link
Each imported row becomes a new dynamic link. A back-half such as launch-2026 becomes rrte.link/launch-2026 when that back-half is free. If it is taken, reserved, or duplicated in the file, that row gets a fresh short ID and the rest of the import continues. The Bitly URL itself is not transferred — no provider can take over another provider's domain.

Read the quota skip report
The import creates links up to the remaining quota on your plan and tells you exactly how many were skipped. Upgrade and re-run the file for the rest whenever you like.

Treat imported links as ordinary dynamic links
They pick up scan analytics from the first scan after import. You can add routing, expiry, a password or retargeting afterwards. Once a link exists here, it keeps redirecting forever, even if you cancel a paid plan. Plan limits only apply to creating new links.

Keep Bitly destinations live
Do not pause or delete the Bitly links that are already printed. Those bit.ly addresses still resolve through Bitly. The dual-run only works while the old destinations stay up.

Print new rrte.link on the next physical run
Every new menu, poster, label or pack should encode the rrte.link address, not another bit.ly. That is the square import can actually own. Leave the old print in the wild until that run is replaced.

Repoint Bitly only as a temporary bridge
If you still control the Bitly account, and that plan still lets you edit destinations, you can point a bit.ly link at the new rrte.link address so existing prints keep working during the switch. That is a temporary bridge, not a takeover. If you no longer control the account, there is no bridge — wait for the physical run to turn over.

Drain top-N by scan volume
Replace the codes that actually get scanned first. A window sticker or table tent that is scanned all day is worth a new print run before a box in the stockroom. Use Bitly's click counts, or the scans you already know about, to pick that top-N. You do not have to reprint everything on day one.

Reprint when the physical run turns over
Menus, posters and packaging get replaced on their own cycle. Encode rrte.link on each replacement. Do not wait for a way to rewrite ink — there is not one. Once a given print no longer shows bit.ly, that code has drained.
What this will not do
- Import creates new rrte.link addresses. It cannot take over bit.ly short URLs — those still resolve through Bitly.
- Scan history, passwords, expiry dates and branded domains from the other provider do not come across. Only the destination, an available back-half, the title and the tags.
- Bitly's Links-page CSV export is a paid-plan feature and is emailed, not downloaded in-browser.
- Repoint a bit.ly destination at rrte.link only as a temporary bridge, and only if you still control the Bitly account. Reprint when the physical run turns over — menus, posters, packaging — not by magically rewriting ink.
- The free plan includes 3 dynamic links. A larger file imports up to the remaining quota and reports the rest as skipped. Paid plans are unlimited.
- One upload is capped at 1000 rows and 2 MB. Split a larger export and run the import again — taken back-halves receive new short IDs.
